Description

Mashad is one of the oldest cities in Iran. It became one of the most prominent weaving centers in the industry. The rich agricultural land in the area provides lush vegetation for the sheep to graze on which explains why the quality of the wool produced here is second to none.

Khalil Khadavi was another master weaver who started making his name in the early 20th century. He built his business from the ground up, starting as a designer and weaver and eventually becoming a foreman in Amoghli, which is a very famous workshop in Mashad.

While working there, he started weaving his own rugs, most of which were very fine and tightly woven. He did not make too many pieces, but with the quality of his work, he quickly gained recognition. Khalil owned 35 looms at the peak of his career.

This 70-80-year-old 10′ x 13’7” Persian Mashad rug is a masterpiece of the Khadivi workshop. It features a stunning open field design with a diamond medallion in the center. It boasts beautiful patterned colors of brown, blue, burgundy, green, and beige.
